There are many ways to help AnimalSave with financial support. You can donate money, needed items (both for the animals and to sell in the Thrift Store) or perhaps you have an unwanted vehicle, boat or RV to donate. AnimalSave is a 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation that is dependent upon the kindness of the community. Each year, your donations translate into hundreds of successful rescues, adoptions and much more.
1. Join AnimalSave’s Save an Animal Membership Club
Our Membership Club lets you become our partner through ongoing financial support. You’ll receive a Membership Certificate, a VIP tour of our facilities, and an invitation to our private Yappy Hour mixers. Here are recommended levels of giving:
- Throw a Dog a Bone. $10 helps AnimalSave support a homeless cat or dog.
- Feed a Hungry Dog or Cat. $20 feeds a dog or cat for a month. Your gift (in any amount) will buy nutritious food for AnimalSave’s pet food distribution programs.
- Find a Forever Home. $35 provides care for a foster animal. Your gift (in any amount) will support the animals in AnimalSave’s Foster/Adoption Program.
- Spay or Neuter a Dog or Cat. $65 spays or neuters a dog or cat. Your gift (in any amount) will help reduce pet overpopulation by supporting AnimalSave’s Spay/Neuter Van.
- Guardian Angel. $100
- Give a Gift in Someone’s Name to Help Animals. Your gift (in any amount) can be in honor or in memory of a special person or pet.

2. Donate by Cash, Check, or Credit Card
Would you like to make a donation with your credit card? Use PayPal’s secure network to make your online donation. You can designate your donation to a particular program or in someone’s memory by writing in the comments section on the PayPal confirmation screen.

3. Buy and Sell on eBay
You can support AnimalSave when you buy or sell on eBay, with the eBay Giving Works program.
When you Buy – You can find whatever you’re looking for on eBay – from baseball cards to new cars and more. When you do, shop for items that benefit us. You can get a great deal and support companion animals at the same time!

4. Donate an Unwanted Vehicle
Are you thinking of selling or trading in that old car, truck, trailer, boat or RV? Why not donate it instead? As a charitable contribution your donation could make a big difference. Automobile donations are an incredibly fast and easy way to help AnimalSave. Your car donations help support our vital work and are an easy way for you to get rid of an unwanted vehicle.
Arrangements are made to conveniently and quickly pick up your vehicle donation at no cost to you. The donation company handles the title transfer requirements and provides you with a tax deductible donation receipt at the time of pick-up! 5. Donate Securities
Avoid paying capital gains tax by transferring appreciated securities to AnimalSave. You will also incur a tax deduction based on the value of the securities at the time of transfer. Please call (530) 271-7071, extension 201 for details of how to transfer securities to AnimalSave.
6. Donate Property
AnimalSave accepts most gifts of real property. Your tax deduction will be based on the value of the property at time of transfer as determined by a professional appraisal. Please call (530) 271-7071, extension 201 for more information.
7. Make a Bequest
You can make a bequest by including AnimalSave in your will or estate plan. Sample language for a bequest is as follows:
I give $________ or _________ % of my estate to AnimalSave, a non-profit corporation, Tax ID No. 94-2307359, located in Grass Valley, California for the protection of Nevada County companion animals. What are the benefits for you?
- Tax Savings–You can save on federal estate taxes.
- Flexibility–You can change your bequest whenever you choose.
- Leave a Legacy–you make a contribution to conserving the environment for future generations.

8. Donate Life Insurance
If you own a life insurance policy that is no longer needed, consider it as the perfect vehicle for a charitable gift. It’s easy to contribute a life insurance policy to us. Just check with your life insurance agent for details on which forms to complete.
9. Give New or Gently Used Items
AnimalSave Thrift and Treasures generates income for our animal welfare programs by selling new and gently used personal and household items. We accept gifts of clothing, jewelry, furniture, kitchen items, artwork, books, and much more. Please click here for information about donation hours and policies.
10. Donate From Your IRA
If you’re at least 70 1/2, new tax legislation allows you to give qualified charities up to $100,000 directly from your IRA without triggering federal income taxes The gift will also satisfy the rules for required minimum distribution for the year. Contact your tax advisor for how these rules may apply to your situation.
11. Donate While You Grocery Shop
Our local SPD Markets in Nevada City and Grass Valley are now offering SPD Community Cards for you to use when you shop for groceries. Every time you use your SPD Community Card at one of the SPD Markets, you will help AnimalSave help the animals. Three percent of your purchase will be donated to AnimalSave at no cost to you.
There are three easy ways to get your Community Card:
- Stop by one of the SPD Markets and complete a form designating AnimalSave (Group Number 500029829) as the recipient of the donation. You’ll receive a card the clerk will swipe at checkout. For very little effort on your part, the animals will benefit in a big way.
- Stop by AnimalSave to pick up a registration form to take to SPD or contact carolyn@animalsave.org or 271-7071 x 201 to receive a form by mail.
- You can also register your card by going to www.escrip.com/SPD or by calling 1-800-931-6258.
AnimalSave also participates in Save Mart Supermarkets S.H.A.R.E.S Program (Supporting Humanities, Arts, Recreation, Education and Sports).
When you shop at Save Mart Supermarkets, S-Mart, FoodMaxx or Lucky and present your S.H.A.R.E.S card, AnimalSave will receive a donation from the S.H.A.R.E.S Program valued at up to 3% of your qualified purchases.
The card is free to you, no sign-up or registration required. The more you use your card, the more points will accumulate for AnimalSave. Just present your S.H.A.R.E.S card at check-out and the animals will benefit!
