Can’t Keep Your Pet?

Through any number of difficult circumstances, the time may come when you need to find a new home for your pet. We’re here to help, with nine key resources that may make the process easier for both you and your animal.

  1. Place the animal’s name, description, and contact information on our Pet Referral List. The list is located at Animal Save Thrift and Treasures, 520 E Main St, Grass Valley, CA.
  2. Put an ad in The Union and/or The Trader. DO NOT GIVE YOUR PET AWAY FOR FREE! Charge an adoption fee to screen out people who cannot afford to feed or care for a pet, and those who sell free animals to labs.
  3. Call KNCO’s Swap Shop (477-KNCO) M-F 3-5pm, and Sat 8-10am
  4. Call KVMR’s Flea Market (530.265.9555) Thurs 1-2pm
  5. Post a flyer at AnimalSave Thrift & Treasures and local veterinary offices. Photos help. (Notices will be removed after one month.) Follow this link to Pet Bond’s cool, interactive Flyer Maker application. You’ll easily make a flyer to post.
  6. Email a photo, description and contact information for posting on our website by clicking here. Notices will be removed after one month. A donation would be appreciated, but not necessary.
  7. If the animal is purebred, get on the internet and look for specific breed rescues.
  8. If the animal is spayed/neutered and current on rabies, you can bring him/her to AnimalSave adoption events. You must contact Debra Sandler at AnimalSave first at 530.271.7071 x204!
  9. Download a copy of How to Find Homes for Homeless Pets (308KB). It’s published by Best Friends Animal Society, and it’s a superb guide for re-homing a pet.
